This is one of the memorable scenes in DC comics history to me. Because Green Lantern is an idiot (multiple times in this story), he and Superman wind up in Hell. Clark is too overwhelmed from hearing and seeing the suffering of the damned with his supersenses to move. Hal on the other hand is too terrified to use his ring because using it in Limbo is what got them there.

Also, I was just reminded that this Neil Gaiman-penned team-up of Superman and Green Lantern sat in a drawer for 14 years because DC has always been stupid.

Reblogging myself because we’ve been talking Superman a lot, and I still really like this scene.

The next page after this one, where a demon comes by to let Hal know what’s happening. I really like Gaiman’s Hal, which was a lot stronger than the rest of the ACW era but still incorporated those humanizing elements of denial and recklessness. I wish they’d have let him write more Green Lantern.
