What in the everloving hell? The HELL? People are trying to “take Hugo down” for “sport?” So feminism isn’t about Hugo, it’s about women and survivors - unless that requires her to make any kind of strong statement that might hurt someone’s professional opportunities, ‘cause that would be terrible.

Welp. Back to writing that long ass post about feminists enabling Hugo!

Oh for the love,  Feministe *has* participated in “coordinated internet take-downs” of people before.   FOR GOOD REASON!  They have supported boycotts of Roman Polanski’s film,  supported campaigns against politicians who hold abhorrent views, boycotted American Apparel and called for Dov Charney’s much deserved “take down”, call for J Micheal Bailey to be fired for his unethical behavior. 

How come when it’s one of their buddies a legitimate form of activism becomes a “take-down”?  Why is it SO DAMN HARD to just come out and say, “Hugo Schwyzer is NOT QUALIFIED to speak or write about feminism”?  My qualifications as a surgeon are better than his as a feminist theorist because I’ve at least dissected a frog in middle school biology. 

WHY IS THIS SCARY TO THESE WOMEN? Why is it so beyond the pale to say that someone who is clearly a misogynist shouldn’t have a career as a professional feminist?  I genuinely don’t get it. 

In some ways, we’re talking about something as simple as money. As basic as the idea that given the limited budgets of universities, conferences and the book buying public, money intended to support feminism should not go to a man like Hugo Schwyzer over woman who can write/speak about surviving the murderous attentions of men like Hugo Schwyzer.

Oh god, I saw that shit at work. Hugo is not an ordinary male lecturer on women’s studies. He is not an ordinary straight cis white dude begging for a cookie. He is not an ordinary man who has been awakened from sexism. He is not even an ordinary reformed attempted murderer.

He is a man who profits from recounting the private and personal pain he caused others, bragging about how well-bred he is and how much tail he’s had, furthering racial and ethnic and gender stereotypes, while asking for a cookie and presenting himself as an expert on women’s studies. That’s. Fucked. Up.

Run him out of town, and be proud of it.
